I want to see that! Take 2
Katie and I launched I want to see that! about 6 weeks ago. Since then, we’ve had a ton of great feedback from the 200 or so folks who were nice enough to sign up for our initial offering. We’ve made a lot of improvements in functionality and interface, and I’m really happy with the new version of the site that we launched last night.
This is one of the great things about creating web applications though - you can turn on a dime and evolve the product to meet the needs of your members. For example, in our first release, there was no way to post an open invite to all of your friends - you had to manually invite each person. I thought this made sense - most of the time, I hand pick the people I see movies with. But in the context of internet event finding, it doesn’t make any sense at all - you want to go to the site and see what your friends are doing and do it with them.
The big feature bump in this release is public invites. The way it works is, when you create your plan to see a movie, you can specify whether it is open or closed. If you pick open, everyone on your friends list will see your plan right on the homepage of the site, and can quickly jump on your bandwagon.
We also reduced the page count on the site dramatically - where there used to be 7 or 8 links in the sidebar, there are now just 3 tabs that get you to everything you need.
We’ve been having a lot of fun going to see movies with people from the site (mostly due to Jeff’s PR efforts on our behalf) and can’t wait for the site to grow and to hear about more people planning movie nights. (Hearing about Consumating parties was my favorite part of running that site…)
I think going to the movies is a great way to get out of the house and see friends you don’t see often enough - you’ve got something to talk about, it only costs $10, and there’s always parking! If you want to see more movies OR see more of your IRL friends, go sign up. I promise, we will never add a Zombies/Werewolf/Vampires application!
