HoorayMovies.com Launched!

Today, Katie and I are very excited to launch the new version of our site and podcast at a brand new URL… HoorayMovies.com!

The most obvious change is the name… we realized that “I want to see that.com” was perhaps not the best name for a supposedly easy to use website. Nobody could spell it right, Andy said it wrong when he introduced us at SXSW, and even when we paid people to talk about it, they got it wrong! We think that the new name retains the excitement we have for seeing new movies, but should be a little bit easier to remember.

But the new name is just one of the many changes we’ve made. Behind the scenes, the entire site has been rebuilt from the ground up to be easier to use and more useful. We’ve focused on making it easy to track movies that you want to see, so if you can’t make it out to see them in the theatre, you can still see them on Netflix or via digital download. All you’ve got to do is tell HoorayMovies once, and it’ll keep you up to date via the site, email, or a wide variety of feeds and calendars.

My favorite feature is the ability to query my movie list and get a quick list of movies that I missed in the theatres, but that are now available on Netflix. I’ll never have to search Netflix again!

One of the most exciting parts of the new site for me, as a developer, are the feeds and calendars we’ve created as part of the relaunch. Reliable and comprehensive information about movies is pretty hard to come by, so we are doing a lot of manual work to compile all the information we present. We don’t want other people to have to go through this nightmare, so we are making almost all of the data we collect available via easy to use feeds and developer resources. Read more about our developer tools and all of our feeds.

So, this is our launch! We aren’t really an INTERNET STARTUP COMPANY, so we aren’t throwing a giant party or launching a huge ad campaign. We are just Ben and Katie, so we ask that you help us out by checking the site out, and if you like it, pass it on to a friend or two, or mention it on your blog (or Twitter or Facebook). I still believe in this oldskool way of launching sites, and I still believe a little website run by people who really care can be just as good as a website funded with tons of easy-to-spend cash. Thanks in advance for helping us out!

We’ve got a bunch of new features in the pipe for the next few months, including integration with the new Netflix API, more ways to see movies, more query options, and an exciting partnership or two in the works. We’ll keep you posted as things develop!

I still feel bad about screwing up the name at SXSW! I’ll be able to remember YayMovies.com, no problem.
