Telling You To Do Things

Ray Roker, the founder of URB magazine, wrote a post last night for Huffington about John McCain’s disturbing use of the term “GOOK,” and the lack of covereage this has had. This is something that I keep expecting to break into the daily news cycle, but nobody seems to be picking it up. Hating Vietnamese people instead of Black people does not excuse you from being a racist.

Meanwhile, Larry Lessig wants you to pester your congresspeoples about signing on to his movement for public finance of campaigns and more transparency in our government. I believe quite passionately in the idea of a more transparent government, so I pestered good ol’ Lloyd Doggett this morning.

Senator Obama also plans to open up our government, and plans on using technology to help do so. Think of the amazing things that people like Andy and Nate Silver will be able to do with raw feeds of data about what is going on inside our massive government. Read about Barack’s plans for technology and democracy here.

And finally, my friend Robert Swirsky, who is one of the happiest married men I’ve ever met, remixed the YES on 8 sign to be a NO on 8 sign. His theory, I believe, is that some people are REALLY REALLY REALLY STUPID and will do anything they are told. I think he’s on to something! If you live in California, you should print one of these out and stick it somewhere!
